GIS and digital platform delivery at Ørsted
Product Owner & IT Architect · 2012 - 2014
- Delivered on time and under budget
Context
Ørsted wanted to build first-class self-service digital offerings for its customers and to deliver them faster across platforms. That meant collecting business needs into a clear backlog and rebuilding the web and GIS applications on a modern, well-engineered stack rather than ageing ones.
What I did
I was product owner and technical team lead for GIS web-based solutions, working with teams distributed across Denmark and Malaysia. We ran SCRUM on Team Foundation Server with test-driven development and continuous integration, and built applications with MVC and Silverlight on top of WCF and REST services in a CQRS pattern, in C# and .NET against Microsoft SQL and Oracle on ESRI GIS platforms. The same delivery covered moving applications from SharePoint 2007 to 2013 and shipping focused business apps, including an iPad app for wind-farm inspections and a data-collection app with Microsoft reporting. I reported progress and risk to steering groups to keep the stakeholders aligned.
Outcome
Ørsted gained modern GIS and digital web platforms delivered by distributed teams on a repeatable engineering practice, and a faster path from a business need to a working application. As product owner I delivered these projects on time and under budget.
